Class activities for Tuesday, May 31

Spelling: None today.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays. Our last cursive assignment this year will be due this week.

Reading: Today was a reading day in Literature Circles.

Writing: Students worked on their Find It, Decide It research project today, focusing on making their decision with evidence to back it up. Students are working with a partner to research a decision, compare and contrast two choices, and to make a decision based on research. The Find It, Decide It project is due Friday, June 2.

Math: Math for the rest of the year is work time to catch up on missing skills for 5th grade math, or to work ahead for next year. Homework is to practice math for at least 15 minutes using MobyMax Math or Khan Academy.

Science: Students worked on a district science test about space objects, the solar system, and gravity.

Social Studies: Students completed a digital review and assessment about the Bill of Rights today.

Notes:

  • Tonight is the FAMILY WALK-A-THON on the Anderson walking track. We will be walking the track on May 31st from 5:30-7:30. A pledge sheet was sent home with detailed information. We will have a D.J., bounce houses, media, and prizes. Students who are able to raise $25 dollars will receive free pizza, water, a sweet treat and a key chain. These items may be purchased at a low cost to other participants. We are asking each family to donate/raise at least $25. Every donation is tax deductible and we will provide a donation letter to every donor. Each student/family will set their personal lap goal.

    • Waterpark field trip, June 12 (tentative date change)
    • 5th Grade Farewell, June 13

Reading: Students worked on a STAR Reading test today.

Writing: Students worked on their Find It, Decide It research project today, looking for ways their two choices are different.  Students will be working with a partner to research a decision, compare and contrast two choices, and to make a decision based on research. The Find It, Decide It project is due Friday, June 2.

Math: We worked on solving problems about volume today. Homework is to practice math for at least 15 minutes using MobyMax Math or Khan Academy.

Science: We reviewed our experiment about gravity and wrote notes. We’ll have a test about space objects, the sizes and distances of planets, and gravity tomorrow.

Social Studies: We learned about the Bill of Rights today.

Reading: Today was a discussion day in Literature Circles.

Writing: Students worked on their Find It, Decide It research project today, looking for ways their two choices are similar.  Students will be working with a partner to research a decision, compare and contrast two choices, and to make a decision based on research. The Find It, Decide It project is due Friday, June 2.

Math: We worked on measuring volume today. Homework is to practice math for at least 15 minutes using MobyMax Math or Khan Academy.

Science: We learned about gravity and how it affects space travel. Homework is to finish analysis questions 1-3 on p. 56 if not done in class. This will be the final science experiment of the year.

Social Studies: None today.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.

Reading: Today was a reading skills practice day due to art.

Writing: Students worked on their Find It, Decide It research project today.  Students will be working with a partner to research a decision, compare and contrast two choices, and to make a decision based on research. Students should try to select their final topic idea tonight. The Find It, Decide It project is due Friday, June 2.

Math: We worked on properties of quadrilaterals and shapes today. Homework is to practice math for at least 15 minutes using MobyMax Math or Khan Academy.

Science: We started our last experiment today about gravity in space.

Social Studies: We learned about the debate over the constitution and the worry about if it was taking away too much power from the states.
