December 12th, 2018
Class activities for Wednesday, December 12
Spelling: We practiced writing contractions (I’ll, she’s) and also practiced there/their/they’re homophones.
Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due Fridays.
Reading: Students completed a STAR Reading test today. Below is our reading progress over the last two years. We’ve had a slower start this year, but we’ve been talking a lot about reading at home every night to keep improving.
Writing: We talked more about using fresh language in writing. One way is to use the built-in dictionary in Google Docs to look up synonyms for common words.
Students also worked on editing conferences today. A narrative story (personal or fiction) is due Sunday, December 16. Homework on weekdays is to work on writing for 15 minutes. Your student should have their draft and be editing by now for spelling, capitals, periods, and sentence sense.
Math: We practiced multi-digit multiplication today. Homework on weekdays is to practice math for 15 minutes using MobyMax or Khan Academy.
Science: We commented on partner’s science arguments that were written previously.
Social Studies: Not much today due to holiday shopping.
Character Strength: We are learning about humility and modesty this week.
