Reading: Students have finished reading their magazines and have begun working on a project to practice oral reading fluency. Students are practicing reading plays in their groups, focusing on reading with speed, tone, accuracy, and volume.

Writing: Students worked on editing today. A personal narrative will be due Monday, October 17; your student should be editing revising at this point for spelling, capitals, punctuation, sentence sense, paragraphs.

Math: None today due to the late start day. Homework is to practice math for at least 15 minutes using MobyMax Math or Khan Academy.

Science: We started to read about how scientists test medicines in a safe and scientific way. Not like this!

Social Studies: Today was our reading skills and AR practice time.

Reading: Today was a discussion day in Literature Circles.

Writing: We talked editing for paragraphs by adding paragraphs for any new changes in a story:

• new characters
• new actions
• new times
• new places
• new character speaking

Students also worked on editing today. A personal narrative will be due Monday, October 17; your student should be editing revising at this point for spelling, capitals, punctuation, sentence sense, paragraphs.

Math: We practiced using decimal grids to model addition. Students also worked in Khan Academy or MobyMax to work on rounding or other decimal skills. Homework is to practice math for at least 15 minutes using MobyMax Math or Khan Academy.

Science: We talked about our class science grades so far. More than half the class has a D or E in science for these reasons:

1. Not doing science analysis question homework, or
2. Writing short, skimpy answers, or
3. Not reading the questions carefully and not answering what is being asked.

Students can fix these problems in these ways:

1. Start doing all science homework. We only have science homework one or two times a week, if that.
2. Write longer answers.
3. Reading carefully and answer what is being asked.
4. Correct any low scores by making corrections on a piece of paper and turning it in. Students will earn a half-point for each point corrected.

Social Studies: Students worked on the chapter 1 test again today. A few students will need to finish their test at home or at recess. Students working at home can use their etext or even a Google search for answers, but not another human being.

Math: We practiced using rounding to estimate sums and differences. Students also worked in Khan Academy or MobyMax to work on rounding or other decimal skills. You student should be finished with decimal place value skills in Khan Academy and MobyMax at this point. Homework is to practice math for at least 15 minutes using MobyMax Math or Khan Academy.

Science: We reviewed our last experiment about testing medicines through clinical trials.
