Online activities for Wednesday, May 13

Reading: Today was a reading day in Literature Circles. Students read an informational text and wrote notes about their reading. Check the Online School Agenda for details.

Writing: Students worked on revising and editing their poems today.

A collection of poems will be due Friday, May 15. Check the Online School Agenda for directions and links. Students should have four to five poems written by now.

Math: Students continued to work on adding and subtracting fractions. We are planning to finish this topic by May 19. Students will need to work at a focused pace, completing several skills a day, to finish. Check the Online School Agenda for directions and links.

Science: Students learned about energy forms and converting energy using MobyMax Science.

Social Studies: None today.

Online activities for Tuesday, May 12

Reading: Students read two short stories and practiced finding the problem and solution. Check the Online School Agenda for details.

Writing: We finished reading the book, Love that Dog. Today was also a revising day for poems.

A collection of poems will be due Friday, May 15. Check the Online School Agenda for directions and links. Students should have four to five poems written by now, and their final collection should have a minimum of 5-7 poems.

We also continued to plan our last writing project of the year, called Find It, Decide It. Students have been looking for partners and starting to think of possible topics.

Math: We started a topic on adding and subtracting fractions. We have three topics remaining, and about four weeks left. That leaves us with about a week for each topic. We are planning to finish this topic by May 19. Students will need to work at a focused pace, completing several skills a day, to finish. Check the Online School Agenda for directions and links.

Science: None today.

Social Studies: Students read about reasons why immigrants from many different countries moved to Michigan. Check the Online School Agenda for directions and links.

Reading: Students read an informational article about Jamestown and answered some response questions. Check the Online School Agenda for details.

Writing: We read more from the book, Love that Dog, and talked about turning an emotional memory into a poem. Today was also a drafting day for writing another poem.

We also talked a little about our last writing project of the year, called Find It, Decide It. Students were asked to start looking for a partner and to start thinking of possible topics.

Math: Students worked on a unit test for equivalent fractions today. Check the Online School Agenda for directions and links.

Science: We are started our last topic of the year: energy forms and converting energy. We will learn about this topic using MobyMax Science.

Reading: Students worked on researching Mackinac Island today and creating a Google Doc or Google Slides presentation. They will continue working on this tomorrow. Check the Online School Agenda for details.

Writing: We worked on drafting poems today. We read more from the book, Love that Dog, and talked about musical poems and concrete poems.

Math: Students worked on comparing fractions with unlike denominators by comparing fractions to common benchmark fractions or by using common denominators. Check the Online School Agenda for directions and links.

Science: Students worked on a scientific explanation about how sound travels, how changes in waves change sounds, and how digital messages are sent. Check the Online School Agenda for directions and links.
