Class activities for Monday, November 27

Monday, November 27th, 2017

Spelling: None today.

Cursive: Cursive worksheet pp. 33-35 are available and are due Friday.

Reading: We started reading expository text about animal adaptations.

Writing: We read a story called “Girl Wonder” and noticed that the story had a circular ending. It began and ended in a similar way.

Students also worked on prewriting today. Our next piece of writing is a fiction story due Monday, December 18. Your student should be prewriting at this point. Homework is to work on writing for 15 minutes and decide on the people, places, and plot of the story.

Math: We practiced estimating by rounding. Students also worked on the addition and subtraction topic at Khan Academy. Homework is to practice math for 15 minutes using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Science: None today due to art.

Social Studies: Today was a leader lesson about taking initiative–fixing a problem before being asked.

Character Strength: We are learning about humility and modesty this week.

Today we worked on finishing our fiction stories, which are due Monday. Today would be a good day to have your student finish their writing if they aren’t done yet.

We also watched a Charlie Brown version of the history of the Pilgrims during their first year in the New World. We wrote down all of the things we are thankful for (our Thanksgiving blessings):

Class activities for Tuesday, November 21

Tuesday, November 21st, 2017

Spelling: None today.

Cursive: Cursive worksheet pp. 33-35 are available and are due Friday, December 1. There is no new cursive assignment this week.

Reading: We practiced reading our Space Fashion Show scripts with good speed, tone, accuracy, and volume.

Writing: We walked about adding new paragraphs for new characters, actions, places, times, and new people speaking. Students also worked on editing conferences and editing today. Our next piece of writing is a fiction story due Monday, November 27. Your student should be editing at this point. Homework is to work on writing for 15 minutes.

Math: None today due to the Space Fashion Show.

Students have been working on the addition and subtraction topic at Khan Academy. Homework is to practice math for 15 minutes using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Science: Today was the Space Fashion Show!

Social Studies: We wrote notes about the powers of the judicial branch.

Cursive: Cursive worksheet pp. 30-32 are available and were due today. There is no new cursive assignment this week.

Reading: Our focus this week is how animals interact in ecosystems. Today, we read about the wolves of Yellowstone and a coral reef.

Writing: Students worked on revising and revising conferences today. Our next piece of writing is a fiction story due Monday, November 27. Your student should be revising at this point. Homework is to work on writing for 15 minutes if needed.

Math: We started a topic on addition and subtraction at Khan Academy. Ask your student to show you their progressHomework is to practice math for 15 minutes using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Science: Students worked on finalizing their scripts today, practicing their scripts, and discussing their costumes. The Space Fashion Show (more details and a sample script) is our final project of our space unit. Students are working in groups to write a fashion show script that tells about the sun, moon, or earth (click here to find your student’s group script). One student from each group will “model” a costume of the sun, moon, or earth. The Space Fashion Show is tomorrow, Tuesday, November 21 at 2 pm in the small gym. Family members are invited!

Reading: Students worked on MobyMax Foundational Reading today.

Writing: Students worked on revising today. Our next piece of writing is a fiction story due Monday, November 27. Your student should be revising at this point. Homework is to work on writing for 15 minutes if needed.

Math: None today due to the half day schedule.
