Online activities for Monday, April 6

Reading: Students read some narrative poetry pieces today and practiced reading with MobyMax Reading Stories. Check the Online School Agenda for links. Reading is at 9:00 am daily.

Writing: Students were tasked with collecting research for their I-Search informational research project today. This involved searching Google, Google Books or Epic for facts. Students could copy and paste facts and sources into their Google Doc and will use these facts later. Homework is to work on writing for at least 15 minutes daily during the week. We work on writing at 1 pm daily.

Math: We worked on drawing and estimating angles today. Check the Online School Agenda for links to the skills we worked on and a tutorial video. Some students are behind in the Measuring Angles topic and might need to spend some extra time catching up. Homework is to work on math for 15 minutes during the week. We work on math at 11 am.

Science: Students worked on writing a scientific explanation about how a dolphin calf could hear its mother very far away, and how it could tell that it was its mother talking. Check the Online School Agenda for links and directions. Homework is to finish the scientific explanation if not done this morning. We work on science at 10 am.

Social Studies: Students wrote a note page about the effects of a global economy on US jobs, product quality, and product prices. Check the Online School Agenda for specifics. Social studies is at 10:30 daily. Homework is to finish this note page if not done yet.

Today was supposed to be the school talent show, so check out our Room 130 Talent Show!

Reading: Today as a Literature Circles discussion day. Students discussed their notes from the “Stargazing” book they read yesterday. Check the Online School Agenda for links. Reading is at 9:00 am daily.

Writing: Students did more prewriting for their I-Search informational research project. Students made a list of possible ideas and started to narrow down the list or choose one topic to learn about. Homework is decide on an interesting information topic to learn about. We work on writing at 1 pm daily.

Science: We worked more on a science forum to discuss how a mother dolphin would send a sound to her calf far away, and how the calf could recognize its mother. Check the Online School Agenda for links and directions. Homework is to finish the Science Forum if not yet. We work on science at 10 am.

Social Studies: We learned about top Michigan and US imports and exports, and who are top trading partner are. Students completed a note page about what they learned. Check the Online School Agenda for specifics. Social studies is at 10:30 daily. Homework is to finish the Import and Export Chart if not finished yet.

Reading: Today’s assignment a Literature Circles reading day. Students were to read a book called, “Stargazing” and to write some notes to discuss tomorrow. Check the Online School Agenda for links. Reading is at 9:00 am daily.

Writing: We used a Zoom video chat to talk about our next writing project, the I-Search informational research project. Students will be researching a topic and sharing their research as a digital presentation during our I-Search Conference at the end of April (if we are back to school!). Homework is for students to think of interesting information topics they would like to learn about. We work on writing at 1 pm daily.

Math: We started to work on naming and measuring angles today. Check the Online School Agenda for links to the skills we worked on and a tutorial video. We work on math at 11 am.

Science: We looked at screencasts students posted of their model of a signature whistle, which was yesterday’s assignment. Some students made screencasts today. Then students commented in a Science Forum. Check the Online School Agenda for links and directions. Homework is to finish the screencast and Science Forum if not yet. We work on science at 10 am.

Social Studies: We started our next lesson about the global economy. Today students looked around their house for products that were imported to America and wrote notes about that. Check the Online School Agenda for specifics. Social studies is at 10:30 daily.

Reading: Today’s assignment was to practice reading with Epic books and MobyMax TestPrep Reading Skills Literature and Informational. Check the Online School Agenda for links. Reading is at 9:00 am daily.

Writing: Today’s assignment was to work on editing and publishing. Today was our last work day for our novel. We will be starting an informational project next. Check how your student is doing here. We work on writing at 1 pm daily.

The novel project is due Wednesday, March 25. Homework is to work on writing for at least 15 minutes daily during the week.

Science: We used a simulation again to model dolphins’ signature whistles. Students were asked to finish or improve the note pages from yesterday. Students also make a screencast of their model of a signature whistle. Check the Online School Agenda for links and directions. Homework is to finish the screencast and post it to go.mrhowd.com/online. We work on science at 10 am.

Social Studies: We reviewed specialization and division of labor with a quizizz game. Check the Online School Agenda for specifics. Social studies is at 10:30 daily.

Reading: Today’s assignment was to practice reading with MobyMax Foundational Reading and Reading Stories. Check the Online School Agenda for links. Reading is at 9:00 am daily.

Writing: Today’s assignment was to work on editing. Some students also chose partners and commenting on a partner’s writing for a revising conference. Check how your student is doing here. We work on writing at 1 pm daily.

The novel project is due Wednesday, March 25. Homework is to work on writing for at least 15 minutes daily during the week.

Math: Students took the plane figures unit test today. Check the Online School Agenda for links to the skills we worked on and a tutorial video. We work on math at 11 am. Our class average for plane figures ended at 92% in just 7 days of online work! We’ll moving on to measuring angles next.
