Class activities for Tuesday, April 9

Spelling: Students continued to work on Words to Learn lists by correcting words missed on the last spelling test. This is your student’s personal spelling list for the next test.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due Fridays.

Reading: We read a realistic fiction story about a boy adjusting to middle school and learning to like a new hobby.

Writing: Students worked on adding facts and images to a slide, and adding sources to a sources slide. The I-Search informational research project is due Friday, April 26. Homework is to work for 15 minutes to finish prewriting a list of slides in Google Keep, if not finished, or to work on putting information into slides.

Math: We practiced adding and subtracting fractions again today. Several students are still struggling with the concept. Homework on weekdays is to practice math for 15 minutes using MobyMax or Khan Academy. Ask your student to show you if they have the fraction addition and subtraction skills finished.

Science: Today was the second part of the MSTEP science test. The mat test will begin tomorrow.

Social Studies: None today due to MSTEP test.

Character Strength: We are learning about the Other People Matter mindset this week.

Writing: Students created Google Slides presentations and started to create slides, or continued to organize their facts into an outline. The I-Search informational research project is due Friday, April 26. Homework is to work for 15 minutes to finish prewriting a list of slides in Google Keep, if not finished, or to work on putting information into slides.

Class activities for Friday, April 5

Spelling: None today.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due Fridays.

Reading: Some students worked on STAR Reading test retakes or other reading assessments.

Writing: Students continued to collect research today and we started to organize the facts into an outline. The I-Search informational research project is due Friday, April 26. Homework on weekdays is for students to continue to collect information from books and websites. Students should also finish their prewriting outline that we started in Google Keep.

Math: None today. Homework on weekdays is to practice math for 15 minutes using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Science: We tested phenol red, calcium chloride, and baking soda in different combinations to see which chemicals were creating gases, heat changes, or color changes.

Students also started the Jet Toy Challenge. They worked in groups to build a chassis out of paper, straws, and plastic wheels. Their mission was to make the chassis roll in a straight line. Next the will add a balloon-jet motor.

Social Studies: None today due to the Jet Toy Challenge.

Character Strength: We are learning about humor this week.

Reading: We read an informational text about how chemical reactions create something new and happen every day around us.

Writing: Students continued to collect research today. The I-Search informational research project is due Friday, April 26. Homework is for students to continue to collect information from books and websites.

Math: Students worked on algebraic thinking or other skills today in Khan Academy. Homework on weekdays is to practice math for 15 minutes using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Science: We read about chemical reactions and wrote notes in our notebooks. Here is the reaction we tested in class using baking soda, calcium chloride, and phenol red.

Social Studies: None today due to the Read-a-Thon.

Reading: Students worked on MobyMax Reading Stories and Reading Skills Literature today.

Writing: Students continued to narrow down their topic for our next writing project, the I-Search informational research project. Students continued to research their topic using books and websites. Students will share their research as a digital presentation during our I-Search Conference at the end of April. Homework is for students to continue to collect information from books and websites.

Math: Students worked on the unit test for the algebraic thinking topic in Khan Academy. Homework on weekdays is to practice math for 15 minutes using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Science: We used a simulation to learn that mountains can push water vapor higher so that it condenses and rains on the mountain. This causes one side of the mountain to receive a lot of rain, and the other side to be drier.

Social Studies: Students complete a digital review and quiz about slavery. Homework is to finish the Key Ideas, Got It and Quiz if not finished in class.
