Class activities for Tuesday, October 2

Spelling: None today.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due Fridays. 

Reading: We reviewed reading strategies about asking questions and cause and effect. We also read part of a narrative nonfiction story about President Roosevelt visiting Yosemite National Park.

Writing: Students also worked on their draft today. A personal narrative is due Friday, October 12.  Homework is to work on writing for 15 minutes and to finish drafting. Your student should have about a page typed by now, with an ending.

Math: We practicing rounding decimals using number lines and solving decimal word problems. Homework is to practice math for 15 minutes using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Science: We practicing making a claim and supporting with evidence. We also used blocks to model how an otter eats a fish and adds matter to its own body.

Social Studies: Students continued to work on the Key Ideas, Got It? and Quiz about American Indian cultures. Homework is to finish this if not finished in class.

Character Strength: We are learning about open-mindedness this week.

Class activities for Monday, October 1

Spelling: None today.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due Fridays. 

Reading: We read a narrative nonfiction story today about Ansel Adams and Henry David Thoreau.

Writing: We talked about the three ingredients of any story: people, places, plot. Every story should have people that talk, places with visual details, and action details that show the story happening. Students also worked on their draft today. A personal narrative is due Friday, October 12.  Homework is to work on writing for 15 minutes. Your student should be drafting by now.

Math: We practicing rounding decimals today. Homework is to practice math for 15 minutes using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Science: We talked about how to make a claim, to prove the claim with evidence, and to explain how the evidence matters.

Social Studies: Students started using digital resources to review American Indian cultures.

Character Strength: We are learning about open-mindedness this week.

BioBlitz 2018

Today was our BioBlitz field trip! We got to pet a chinchilla, sloth, and large snake! We learned out to identify and measure trees. We learned all about how to keep honeybees and how to collect honey. The class got to sample honeycomb and got their own sample of honey!

Class activities for Thursday, September 27

Spelling: We reviewed how adding suffixes onto base words changes their meaning and sometimes changes the spelling of the base word.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due Fridays. 

Reading: We continued to read a realistic fiction story about a scavenger hunt. We also practiced writing notes about important passages.

Writing: Students started their draft today. A personal narrative is due Friday, October 12.  Homework is to work on writing for 15 minutes. Your student should be drafting by now.

Math: Today was a math practice day shortened by a few schedule changes. Homework is to practice math for 15 minutes using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Science: We wrote notes about how animals eat to get matter for growing and repairing their bodies.

Social Studies: We compared and contrasted American Indian structures and then practiced using a social studies website to review important ideas.

Character Strength: We are learning about teamwork this week.

  • The BioBlitz field trip is tomorrow, Friday, September 28 from 9:15-2:30. Students need a sack lunch with disposable containers. Chaperones, there are no bus seats available for chaperone rides. You’ll have to drive or carpool.

Spelling: None today.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due Fridays. 

Reading: Today was a reading skills practice day using AR and MobyMax Reading.

Writing: Students completed prewriting conferences today by commenting on a partner’s prewriting. Students also worked on their prewriting. A personal narrative is due Friday, October 12.  Homework is to work on writing for 15 minutes. Your student should be finished with prewriting by now.

Math: We practiced comparing and ordering decimals today. We also talked about using class and home time wisely to level up on math skills continually. We noticed that some students in our class aren’t practicing math for very many minutes. Homework is to practice math for 15 minutes using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Science: We wrote notes about ecosystems and about our reading this week about how everything is made of matter.

Social Studies: Today was a leader lesson that gave students a chance to think about a possible project they would like to work on to improve our school this year.

Character Strength: We are learning about teamwork this week.
