Class activities for Friday, January 24
Spelling: None today.
Cursive: Cursive workbook pp. 63 is due Monday.
Reading: Today was reading skills practice day using MobyMax Reading and AR.
Writing: We continued to talk about literary essays (here’s a sample). Here are the main parts of a literary essay:
- Introduction with the name of the book, summary, and the theme of the book
- At least three examples from the book that support and prove the theme
- A conclusion that restates the theme
We worked on the introduction to an essay for the short story, High and Lifted Up, then we started working on three examples from the book that matched the theme we noticed.
Students start working on their own essays next week. A literary essay is due Friday, February 7.
Math: Today was a math skills practice day during Khan Academy and MobyMax.
Science: We reviewed the three states of matter and what they are like. We learned that sand sometimes acts like a liquid, but is a granular solid:
Social Studies: We talked about how a change in technology, natural resources, or competition can change an entire economy. We started to learn about the town of Rhyolite that had a growing economy because of the discovery of gold.
