Class activities for Wednesday, April 22

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2015

Spelling: None today due to the social studies M-STEP test.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.

Reading: Today was a discussion day in Literature Circles.

Writing: We talked about the types of slides that should be included in each student’s presentation:

  1. Title slide.
  2. Introduction slide to explain what the presentation is about.
  3. At least five information slides.
  4. Sources slide.

Students also continued to work on their digital I-Search presentation slides. The project is due on May 1. Students will share their research as a digital presentation during our I-Search Conference on May 1.

Math: None today due to the social studies M-STEP test.

It would be helpful for students to continue working on these skills at home if they haven’t had enough time in class to master them.

Homework is to practice math for 15 minutes or more using MobyMax or Khan Academy, and to work on MobyMax FactMaster for 5 minutes.

Science: We started working on an experiment about how sunlight changes during different seasons.

Social Studies: None today due to the social studies M-STEP test.

Reading: Today was a discussion day in Literature Circles.

Writing: Many students used the information they have collected and their mind maps to start working on their digital I-Search presentation. The project is due on May 1. Students will share their research as a digital presentation during our I-Search Conference on May 1.

Math: None today due to the math M-STEP test.

It would be helpful for students to continue working on these skills at home if they haven’t had enough time in class to master them.

Homework is to practice math for 15 minutes or more using MobyMax or Khan Academy, and to work on MobyMax FactMaster for 5 minutes.

Social Studies: We finished learning about how the Great Awakening was a period of religious revival in the American colonies and lead to religious freedom, equality, and questioning of the King’s power. Homework is to finish the reading notes on notebook p. 54.

Reading: Students completed a STAR Reading test today.

Writing: Students used the information they have collected to create a mind map that planned what information would go on each slide of their I-Search informational research project. After the mind map is completed, each student can start to create digital slides. The project is due on May 1. Students will share their research as a digital presentation during our I-Search Conference on May 1.

Math: None today due to the math M-STEP test.

Writing: None today due to the AR kickball game for students that reached their AR reading goal for the third marking period.

Students will use information they have collected for their I-Search informational research project to begin creating digital slides next week. The project is due on May 1. Students will share their research as a digital presentation during our I-Search Conference on May 1.

Math: Students used MobyMax to practice adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators, or multiplying fractions.

Science: Today was the first day of the A World in Motion (AWIM) Jet Toy Challenge. Local engineers helped students begin to design a balloon jet-powered toy car. Today, students were designing the chassis.

Social Studies: We learned about how important the church was to colonial Virginia. Homework is to finish the reading notes for section 9.8 if not done in class.
