Class activities for Tuesday, February 9

Tuesday, February 9th, 2016

Spelling: None today.

Cursive: Cursive pages 52-54 are available and due on Thursday.

Reading: Students received magazines today to practice informational reading.

Writing: Students worked on revising their essays today. Homework is to work on writing for at least 15 minutes.

A literary essay will be due Tuesday, February 16; here’s a sample essay and here’s an example essay we wrote together. Students should be finished with their draft by now and revising.

Math: We practiced multiplying two-digit numbers using arrays, and then students worked on the skill at Khan Academy. Here are some skills we’ve been working on lately:

Homework is to practice MobyMax Math or Khan Academy for at least 15 minutes.

Science: Students worked on a district science test today.

Social Studies: We started a new topic on government today. We talked today about the types of questions scientists ask about government: Why do we have a government? How is it organized? What is the purpose? What would happen if we had no government?

Spelling: Today was a preview of upcoming spelling words.

Cursive: Cursive pages 52-54 are available and due on Friday.

Reading: None today due to Eagle Talk.

Writing: Students completed revising conferences today. Homework is to work on writing for at least 15 minutes. Some students stayed in at recess working on their essay due to not taking the time to have it drafted by now.

A literary essay will be due Tuesday, February 16; here’s a sample essay and here’s an example essay we wrote together. Students should be finished with their draft by now and starting to revise.

Math: Students chose MobyMax or Khan Academy to practice math skills today; our time was shortened today due to a district social studies test. Here are some skills we’ve been working on lately:

Homework is to practice MobyMax Math or Khan Academy for at least 15 minutes.

Science: Students completed an experiment about measuring colored water using graduated cylinders to create a color spectrum. Homework is to finish the experiment page if not done in class.

Social Studies: Students completed a district economics test today. You can see your student’s grade in ParentVue or StudentVue.

Spelling: Students completed a spelling and skill test today.

Cursive: Cursive pages 49-51 are available and due on Friday.

Reading: The final three student groups performed their reader’s theatre plays today to practice reading fluency and to share their book with the class.

Writing: We practiced writing a conclusion to a literary essay today. Homework is to work on writing for at least 15 minutes.

Math: We praticed identifying extra or missing information in number stories. Students also practiced math skills using MobyMax Math. Here are some skills we’ve been working on lately:

Science: We reviewed the Investigation Review about measuring matter. Homework is to finish the Investigation Review about matter started in class.

Social Studies: We reviewed for Monday’s economics test.

Spelling: We reviewed digraphs today. This will be the skill tested on tomorrow’s spelling test.

Cursive: Cursive pages 49-51 are available and due on Friday.

Reading: Two student groups performed their reader’s theatre plays today to practice reading fluency and to share their book with the class.

Writing: We practiced using evidence to support a theme. Students also worked on explaining how the evidence from a text matches the theme.

Homework is to work on writing for at least 15 minutes.

A literary essay will be due Friday, February 12; here’s a sample essay and here’s an example essay we wrote together. Students should be nearing the end of their draft by now.
