Spelling: We worked on making Words to Learn lists of words missed on the last spelling test for a final day today.

Cursive: Cursive pp. 52-54 are available and are due Friday. This was the final week of cursive review pages. For the remainder of the year, the assignment will be to write 10 cursive sentences weekly.

Reading: We read a biography about Abraham Lincoln. Today was also a Literature Circles discussion day.

Writing: We talked about organizing the evidence of a literary essay by finding three characters from the text, or three times from the text that shows the theme of the story. Students also worked on their draft today.

A literary essay will be due Monday, February 12. Homework is to work on writing for 15 minutes. Your student should be drafting by now.

Here are some literary essay resources we’ve been using in class:

Math: We practiced multiplication skills using the arithmetic topic at Khan Academy. Homework is to practice math for 15 minutes using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Science: We practiced measuring liquids using graduated cylinders today. Students poured measured amounts of colored water into cups; if they measured correctly, the would make a rainbow-colored spectrum of water! Homework is to finish the Color Spectrum experiment if needed.

Social Studies: We learned about how a country’s economic system is decided by how the country uses its resources, what products they make, how they make them, and how they decide who will use the products.
