Class activities for Friday, May 29

Spelling: None today.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due Fridays.

Reading: Today was a discussion day in Literature Circles.

Writing: Students continued to work on their Find It, Decide It comparative information piece. Students will work in pairs to find information to make a decision (more information here). Today, students worked in the computer lab to find information or started writing up their decision. This final piece is due Friday, June 5.

Math: We continued to work on fractions of sets (1/2 of 20 = 10, 1/3 of 12 = 4, 2/3 of 12 = 8). We also used pattern blocks to make fractions.

Science: None today.

Social Studies: None today.

Math: We reviewed dividing shapes into pieces and shading to match a given fraction. We also learned about fractions of sets (1/2 of 20 = 10, 1/3 of 12 = 4, 2/3 of 12 = 8). Homework is to finish Journal pp. 193-194.

Science: None today.

Social Studies: We learned about the Toledo War, how Michigan became a state, and reviewed how Michigan helped with the Civil War.

Reading: Today was a reading day in Literature Circles.

Writing: Students continued to plan their Find It, Decide It comparative information piece. Students will work in pairs to find information to make a decision (more information here). Today, students worked with their partner to develop their topic question and write notes. This final piece is due Friday, June 5.

Math: None today due to an extra time with science. We’ll have an extra math time tomorrow.

Science: We watched a presentation about the comparative sizes of the sun and other stars (some stars are 600 times larger than our sun!) and also about how scientists have discovered that earth seems uniquely suited for life and scientific discovery. Here is a summary of all the special factors needed for life to exist, and earth is the only place in the known universe that has them all:

Social Studies: We learned about how the Erie Canal brought people to Michigan and that pioneer life was difficult.

Spelling: Students completed a spelling achievement test today.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due Fridays.

Reading: Today was a reading day in Literature Circles.

Writing: Students published their collect of poems today, made sure their I-Search presentations were in their portfolios, and started working on the final writing piece of the year. This piece is an information comparison piece called, Find It, Decide It. Students will work in pairs to find information to make a decision (more information here). This final piece is due Friday, June 5.

Math: None today due to the Space Fashion Show.

Science: Today was the Space Fashion Show! Look for pictures and videos to be posted soon.

Social Studies: None today.
