Class activities for Monday, October 31

Monday, October 31st, 2016

Spelling: None today.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.

Reading: None today due to Eagle Talk.

Writing: We talked more about making characters seem real by describing their behavior, showing their actions, including dialogue and visual details, and showing how other characters react.

Students also worked on revising conferences today. Our last personal narrative will be due Monday, November 7; your student should be making changes by revising. Homework is to work on writing for at least 15 minutes.

Math: Some students practiced double-digit multiplication today while others worked on finishing missing or new math skills at Khan Academy or MobyMax. Homework is to practice math for at least 15 minutes using MobyMax Math or Khan Academy.

Here are some Khan Academy topics your students should be finished with by now:

Science: None today due to art.

Social Studies: We learned about some religious wars during the Age of Exploration that affected how America was colonized by English settlers that valued religious freedom.

Spelling: Today was a preview of upcoming spelling words.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.

Reading: Today was a reading skills and AR practice day.

Writing: We talked about making characters seem real by describing their behavior, showing their actions, and including dialogue.

Math: We practiced single and double-digit multiplication today. Students also worked on math skills at Khan Academy or MobyMax. Homework is to practice math for at least 15 minutes using MobyMax Math or Khan Academy.

Here are some Khan Academy topics your students should be finished with this week:

Science: Students completed a science experiment about which part of a hand is more sensitive, fingers, palm, or wrist. We also practiced completing experiments while changing only one variable at a time. Homework is to finish analysis questions 1-4 on p. 24.

Social Studies: Students completed digital assessments for Lesson 2.2 about Spanish explorers. Homework is to finish the Key Ideas, Got It? and quiz if not done in class.

Writing: None today due to art.

Spelling: Today was a spelling and skill test about compound words.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.

Reading: Today was a reading day in Literature Circles; some groups worked on visualizing as a reading strategy.

Writing: Today was a revising work day. Students worked on revising their personal narrative by adding or removing words, sentences, paragraphs, and ideas. Our last personal narrative will be due Monday, November 7; your student should be finished with their draft at this time at least a full page) and making changes by revising. Homework is to work on writing for at least 15 minutes.

Math: We started to review single-digit multiplication today, for example 23 x 7. Students also worked on math skills at Khan Academy or MobyMax. Homework is to practice math for at least 15 minutes using MobyMax Math or Khan Academy.

Spelling: We practiced spelling compound words today. This will be the skill tested on tomorrow’s spelling test.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.

Reading: Today was a discussion day in Literature Circles.

Writing: We reviewed the idea of adding inner story details to writing. Inner story includes the thoughts and feelings of a character that make them seem real.

Students also worked on drafting their personal narrative. Our last personal narrative will be due Monday, November 7; your student should be finished with their draft by tonight (at least a full page). Homework is to work on writing for at least 15 minutes and to finish drafting.

Math: We practiced the distributive property today using a Khan Academy topic of articles and practices. Students also worked on math skills at Khan Academy or MobyMax. Homework is to practice math for at least 15 minutes using MobyMax Math or Khan Academy.

Social Studies: We read about several other Spanish explorers who often searched for riches, but usually failed to find them. However, they were able to claim a lot of land for Spain.
