Class activities for Wednesday, February 13

Wednesday, February 13th, 2019

Spelling: We reviewed irregular verbs, which are verbs that cannot be made past tense by adding –ed. Examples: see/saw, go/went, tell/told. This will be the skill tested on Friday’s spelling test.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due Fridays.

Reading: None today due to a class about coping strategies when dealing with emotions.

Writing: We continued writing a literary essay together using the elements of an essay. Students also selected a book to write an essay on. Here is also an example essay to look at. A literary essay is due Friday, February 22.

Homework on weekdays is to work on writing for 15 minutes. Starting tonight, your student can begin working on their literary essay. Students should read the book those chose today, decide what the book is teaching about (the theme), and then work on some prewriting.

Math: Today we practiced more decimal division like 2.4÷ 80. Homework on weekdays is to practice math for 15 minutes using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Science: We read a little about the phases of water and what water molecules look like.

Social Studies: We read about the New England, Middle, and Southern colonial regions. They each had their own type of climate and natural resources which influenced how the colonists lived.

Character Strength: We are learning about love this week.

Spelling: None today.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due Fridays.

Reading: Today was a reading day in Literature Circles.

Writing: We continued writing a literary essay together using the elements of an essay. Here is an example essay to look at. A literary essay is due Friday, February 22.

Homework on weekdays is to work on writing for 15 minutes.

Math: Today we practiced more decimal division like 24 ÷ 5 and 3.6 ÷ 2. Homework on weekdays is to practice math for 15 minutes using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Science: We wrote notes about how water drops form in the atmosphere. We learned that water drops come from water vapor in the air when it is cold.

Social Studies: We started learning about what life in the English colonies was like.

Character Strength: We are learning about love this week.

Spelling: None today.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due Fridays. This week’s assignment will be due on Monday. 

Reading: Today was a reading skills practice day using MobyMax Reading.

Writing: We reviewed the elements of an essay and began writing a practice essay together. A literary essay is due Friday, February 22.

Homework on weekdays is to work on writing for 15 minutes.

Math: Today was a work day to finish up division skills in Khan Academy. Homework on weekdays is to practice math for 15 minutes using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Science: We talked about our last experiment that showed that water from the air forms drops on a cold surface.

Social Studies: None today due to an assembly.

Character Strength: We are learning about social intelligence this week.

Spelling: We practicing adding prefixes onto base words that mean “not:” non, un, im, ir, il, dis.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due Fridays.  

Reading: We read an article about how scientists tried to understand the Inca people from one of the artifacts discovered in some of their cities.

Writing: We continued to review the elements of an essay. We also read a short story that we will use for writing an example essay. A literary essay is due Friday, February 22.

Homework on weekdays is to work on writing for 15 minutes.

Math: We practiced division problems like 7 ÷ 5. Homework on weekdays is to practice math for 15 minutes using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Science: None today due to extra time with social studies.

Social Studies: Students completed a test about European settlements in the New World.

Character Strength: We are learning about social intelligence this week.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due Fridays.  

Reading: We read some articles about how people have used artifacts to learn about the past.

Writing: Due to the snow week, we are moving ahead with a new piece of writing, a literary essay. Today, we reviewed the elements of an essay. A literary essay is due Friday, February 22.

Homework on weekdays is to work on writing for 15 minutes.

Math: We practiced using pictures to solve decimal division today. Homework on weekdays is to practice math for 15 minutes using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Science: We did an experiment to test if water drops on the outside of a cold cup comes from inside the cup, or the air outside. We did this by putting a cup of ice water in a bag a removing most of the air. We noticed that the cup inside the bag did not have as many water drops on it compared to the cup that was exposed to the air. Homework is to finish notebook p. 18 started in class.

Social Studies: None today due to a presentation about the Perry Innovation Center.

Character Strength: We are learning about social intelligence this week.
