Class activities for Friday, January 24

Friday, January 24th, 2020

Spelling: None today.

Cursive: Cursive pp. 51-52 are available and were due today.

Reading: None today due to an assembly about magic, science, math, and following directions.

Writing: We continued to write a practice literary essay today. Here is a literary essay written in a past year using the elements of an essay. A literary essay is due Tuesday, February 11.

Homework on weekdays is to work on writing for 15 minutes. There is nothing to work on for our essay project yet, but students could be making any final changes to their adventure story.

Math: Students continued to work on multiplication topics in Khan Academy. Homework on weekdays is to practice math for 15 minutes using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Science: Students worked on designing an experiment to test the sense of touch, smell, or hearing.

Social Studies: Students completed a district government test today.

Character Strength: We are learning about perseverance this week.

Spelling: None today.

Cursive: Cursive pp. 51-52 are available and are due Friday.

Reading: Today was a reading assessment day for some students. We also practiced reading with MobyMax Reading Stories.

Writing: We started our next writing topic, a literary essay. Today, we looked at an example essay and reviewed the elements of an essay. Here is a literary essay written in a past year using the elements of an essay. A literary essay is due Tuesday, February 11.

Homework on weekdays is to work on writing for 15 minutes. Students could be making any final changes to their adventure story tonight.

Math: Students worked on a STAR Math test today and also worked on finishing the 1- and 2-Digit Multiplication topics in Khan Academy. Homework on weekdays is to practice math for 15 minutes using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Science: Students wrote a scientific explanation today about how geckos see and how too much light would affect their vision.

Social Studies: None today.

Writing: Students worked on publishing their Choose Your Own Adventure fiction gamebook.

Homework on weekdays is to work on writing for 15 minutes. Students should be finished with their adventure story tonight.

Cursive: Cursive pp. 48-50 are available and were due today.

Reading: We learned about the Civil Rights movement and Martin Luther King Jr. during this time and also started reading a little about this time of history.

Writing: Students worked on editing their Choose Your Own Adventure fiction gamebook.

Homework on weekdays is to work on writing for 15 minutes. Students should be revising by adding new details, or editing at this point.

Choose Your Own Adventure Resources

Math: Today was our last class work day to work on two-digit multiplication in MobyMax Math. We’ll try to finish up two-digit multiplication in Khan Academy next week. Homework on weekdays is to practice math for 15 minutes using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Science: Students pairs explained the vision models they made yesterday to another group of students. Homework is to finish notebook p. 89 if not done in class.

Social Studies: We used this time to learn about Martin Luther King Jr.

Character Strength: We are learning about prudence this week.

Spelling: We started practicing common spelling patterns for the /s/ sound.

Cursive: Cursive pp. 48-50 are available and are due Friday.

Reading: We used this time to work on building a model in science.

Writing: Students worked on revising their Choose Your Own Adventure fiction gamebook. The goal is to write a new page every day, with a minimum of seven pages for this project. If a student writes one page at school and home each day, they will end up with 14 pages!

Homework on weekdays is to work on writing for 15 minutes. Students should be finished with their Google Site adventure story and should have at least seven pages completed by now. Each page should have a mix of talking, action, and visual details.
