Reading: Students read a realistic fiction story about a brother helping a sister, and also answered some response questions. Check the Online School Agenda for details.

Writing: Today was the third I-Search drafting today for students to create slides that contain facts and pictures. The I-Search presentation is due Wednesday, April 29. Here are more details about this project. Check the Online School Agenda for directions and links.

Math: Today, we practiced the partial quotients method of division with larger numbers. Check the Online School Agenda for directions and links.

Science: None today.

Social Studies: We started learning about geography today. We learned about ways to locate the United States by comparing it to other countries, the equator, the Prime Meridian, and other things on a map. Homework is to finish the note page if not done this morning.

Math: Today we returned to the division topic to continue working. We were at 55% when left this topic. Today, we practiced using the partial quotients method of division. Check the Online School Agenda for directions and links.

Science: Students worked a sound topic at MobyMax Science today.

Online activities for Thursday, April 9

Reading: Today was a discussion day in Literature Circles. Students recorded videos of themselves reading one of their book notes and then responded to other videos. Check the Online School Agenda for links.

Writing: Today was an I-Search drafting today in which students could create a Google Slide presentation. We talked about creating a title and sources slide, and students could work on their first information slide today.

Math: Today was a work day in Khan Academy for completing unfinished Measuring Angles skills, or other past or new topics.

Science: Students worked a note page to help them better explain how a mother dolphin could communicate with her baby. Homework it to finish the note page if not done this morning.

Social Studies: Students continued to work on MobyMax Social Studies about the global economy.

  • There is no school Friday for Good Friday. Also beginning this week, each Friday will be a day to catch up on any missed work or to work ahead on any topics.

Reading: Today was a reading day in Literature Circles. Students read their Literature Circles book and wrote notes about their reading. Check the Online School Agenda for links. Reading is at 9:00 am daily.

Writing: Today was a third prewriting today to collect research for the I-Search informational research project. This involves searching Google, Google Books or Epic for facts. Students could copy and paste facts and sources into their Google Doc and will use these facts later. Homework is to work on writing for at least 15 minutes daily during the week. We work on writing now at 11:30 am daily.

Math: We worked on the unit test for the Measuring Angles topic today. This is the last skill in this unit. Our class average is up to 80% and could be higher if a few more students catch up on missing skills. Check the Online School Agenda for links to the skills we worked on and a tutorial video. Homework is to work on math for 15 minutes during the week. We work on math at 10:45 am.

Science: Students worked on learning about sound at MobyMax Science today. Check the Online School Agenda for links and directions. We work on science at 9:45 am daily.

Social Studies: Students worked on MobyMax Social Studies about the global economy again today. Check the Online School Agenda for specifics. Social studies is at 10:15 am daily.

Reading: Students practiced reading using MobyMax Foundational Reading and Reading Stories. Check the Online School Agenda for links. Reading is at 9:00 am daily.

Writing: Today was another prewriting today to collect research for the I-Search informational research project. This involves searching Google, Google Books or Epic for facts. Students could copy and paste facts and sources into their Google Doc and will use these facts later. Homework is to work on writing for at least 15 minutes daily during the week. We work on writing at 1 pm daily.

Math: We worked on decomposing angles today. This is the last skill in this unit. Our class average is 56% due to some students having unfinished skills. Check the Online School Agenda for links to the skills we worked on and a tutorial video. Homework is to work on math for 15 minutes during the week. We work on math at 11 am.

Science: Students worked on improving their scientific explanation about how a dolphin calf could hear its mother very far away, and how it could tell that it was its mother talking. Check the Online School Agenda for links and directions. Homework is to finish making improvements to the scientific explanation if not done this morning. We work on science at 10 am.

Social Studies: Students worked on MobyMax Social Studies about the global economy. Check the Online School Agenda for specifics. Social studies is at 10:30 daily.
