Writing: Students practiced reading poems that they will share at our Borders Poetry Slam tomorrow. Students have been notified that all students with original poetry will be welcome to attend this trip. Students with no final, published poetry of their own will remain at school. Some students still need to return their permission slips. Also, students were asked to wear nicer, business casual clothes to present at Borders for this special event.

The final portfolio piece of the year, the Find It, Decide It comparative information piece (more information here), is due Friday, June 5.

Math: We reviewed equivalent fractions and practiced improper fractions and mixed numbers. Homework is to finish Puzzle pages 31 and 32.

Science: We learned about the states of matter: solid, liquid and gas.

Writing: Students continued to work on their Find It, Decide It comparative information piece. Students are working in pairs to find information to make a decision (more information here). Today, students worked in the computer lab to find information and develop their decision. This final piece is due Friday, June 5.

Our Borders Poetry Slam field trip is this Thursday. Students have been notified that all students with original poetry will be welcome to attend this trip. Students with no final, published poetry of their own will remain at school.

Math: We reviewed pattern blocks fractions. Students also started to complete the following tasks, and any unfinished at school are homework:

1. Cut out fraction cards found at the back of Math Journal 2;
2. Make a paper envelope in which to store the fraction cards, and tape the envelope into the Math Journal;
3. Complete the fraction on the back of each card;
4. Complete StudyLink 7.6 and 7.7 about equivalent fractions.

Science: Students completed an experiment about making a cloud activity. Students learned that a cloud is made of tiny droplets of liquid water.

Science: Students completed an activity to see how much of the earth is covered with water. Homework is to finish the activity if not done in class.

Social Studies: We learned that Michigan used its natural resources (mining, logging, farming) to create manufacturing jobs (car factories, furniture factories, cereal factories) and immigrants from Europe helped work in these new factories. Homework was to research what happened on July 4, 1776.
