Spelling: None today.

Cursive: Eight cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due Thursday.

Reading: Today was the reading and writing MSTEP test. Tomorrow we’ll start the math MSTEP test.

Writing: Today we talked adding empty lines in a poem to create whitespace. Students also worked on their poem collection today.  A collection of poems will be due Friday, May 18.

Math: We practiced adding and subtracting mixed numbers again today. Homework is to practice math for 15 minutes using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Science: None today.

Social Studies: We made a map of common landforms in America.

Spelling: We practiced spelling words with the ge/dge patterns for the /j/ sound.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due Friday.

Reading: Today was the reading and writing MSTEP test.

Writing: Today we talked turning a story into a poem. Students also worked on their poem collection today.  A collection of poems will be due Friday, May 18.

Math: We practiced adding and subtracting mixed numbers. Homework is to practice math for 15 minutes using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Social Studies: We started to learn about the physical features of the US.

Reading: Students completed a STAR Reading test today.

Writing: Today we talked about how some poems can be “small,” meaning they can be about small or common topics. Not every poem has to be about major, action-packed events.

Students also worked on their poem collection today.  A collection of poems will be due Friday, May 18.

Math: We practiced converting between improper fractions and mixed numbers. Homework is to practice math for 15 minutes using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Science: We completed a survey of traits to see if everyone in our class had the same traits or if there are differences.

Social Studies: We started to learn about how to locate the US on a map.

Reading: None today due to the Talent Show.

Writing: Today we talked about how all poems have at least one of these three ingredients:

  1. imagery (visualizing and feeling)
  2. music (a rhythm or beat, rhyming, or repeating words)
  3. emotion

Students also worked on their poem collection today.  A collection of poems will be due Friday, May 18.

Math: None today due to the late start. Homework is to practice math for 15 minutes using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Science: None today due to the late start.

Social Studies: We started our geography topic by learning about the continents. Homework is to finish the Label the Continents page.

Reading: We read an expository article about how scientists learn about small things using an electron microscope.

Writing: We read a poem about a tiger and about a quiet stop in a snowy forest. Students also worked on their poem collection today.  A collection of poems will be due Friday, May 18.

Math: We practiced adding and subtracting fractions again today. Homework is to practice math for 15 minutes using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Science: We talked about what makes plants and animals alive and separates them from nonliving objects. We also started a new minibook about life and predicted needs for living plants and animals.
