Class activities for Friday, May 12

Friday, May 12th, 2017

Spelling: None today.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.

Reading: Today was a reading day in Literature Circles.

Writing: None today due to working on a technology project. A collection of poems will be due on Friday, May 19.

Homework is to work on poems for 15 minutes.

Math: We worked on multiplying mixed numbers today. Homework is to practice math for at least 15 minutes using MobyMax Math or Khan Academy.

Science: Students finished an experiment about classifying space objects today. Homework is to finish analysis questions 1-3 on p. 19.

Social Studies: Students finished working on a district test about the American Revolution.

Spelling: None today.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.

Reading: Today was a discussion day in Literature Circles.

Writing: We talked about writing a fragment poem by writing a few words on each line, rather than full sentences. Here’s an example written by a past class. A collection of poems will be due on Friday, May 19.

Homework is to work on poems for 15 minutes.

Math: We worked on multiplying fractions today. Homework is to practice math for at least 15 minutes using MobyMax Math or Khan Academy.

Science: Students worked in groups to sort and classify space objects. We’ll continue working on this experiment tomorrow.

Social Studies: Students worked on a district test about the American Revolution.

Spelling: We reviewed common spelling patterns for the /ch/ sound. We learned that ch and tch are common patterns, but tch is usually used for short vowel sounds (as in stitch or batch), and ch for long vowel sounds (as in reach and coach).

Recent skills that should be finished:

Science: We worked on an experiment about comparing other planets to earth. We learned that other planets would probably not have the same type of day, year, seasons, or tides as earth. Homework is to finish the Comparing Planets charted if not done in class.

Reading: None today due to working on a class technology project.

Writing: We talked about repeating words to add music to a poem. Students also worked on their poetry again today. A collection of poems will be due on Friday, May 19.

To finish our information project, our I-Search Conference will be on May 9 from 1:30-2:30. Here is the schedule. Family members are welcome to attend.
