Class activities for Friday, November 1

Spelling: None today. We used this time to create a personal agreement in our Leadership Notebooks.

Cursive: Cursive pp. 22-24 are available and were due today.

Reading: Today was a reading skills practice day using MobyMax Foundational Reading.

Writing: Students worked on publishing today.

A “fictionalized” personal narrative is due Sunday, November 3. Homework on weekdays is to work on writing for 15 minutes.

Math: We practiced multiplying numbers using area models today.

Homework on weekdays is to practice math for 15 minutes using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Science: We used a stream table to model water eroding sediment to form a canyon. We learned that the longer water moves, the more sand it erodes. We also learned that faster water causes much more erosion than slower water.

Social Studies: None due to extra social studies.

Character Strength: We are learning about creativity this week.

Class activities for Thursday, October 31

Spelling: Students practiced writing words with common /k/ spelling patterns: c, ck, ch, k, qu.

Cursive: Cursive pp. 22-24 are available and are due Friday.

Reading: Today was a discussion day in Literature Circles.

Writing: We talked more about adding paragraphs for new times, places, actions, people, ideas, and speakers.

Students also worked on editing today during editing conferences with a partner.

Spelling: Students make Words to Learn lists from words missed on the last spelling test. This will be your student’s custom spelling list to practice for the next test.

Cursive: Cursive pp. 22-24 are available and are due Friday.

Reading: Today was a reading day in Literature Circles. Students read a folktale and wrote notes about their thinking.

Writing: We talked about adding paragraphs for new times, places, actions, people, ideas, and speakers.

Students also worked on editing today.

Science: We wrote notes about how rocks can change over time due to weathering and erosion caused by wind, water, plants and ice. We also used a simulation to learn that more erosion can happen with faster water over longer time periods.

Social Studies: We started to research the branches of government and what they are like.

  • The school Harvest Fest is tonight from 5:30-7:30! Students may wear a costume to the Harvest Fest, but no costumes during school hours, please. Many activities are free, and others are $1-2.

Spelling: We learned about common spelling patterns for the /k/ sound: c, ck, c, ch, qu.

Cursive: Cursive pp. 22-24 are available and are due Friday.

Reading: We read a folktale about how being greedy causes trouble and pain.

Writing: We talked about adding visual details to show the setting. That will make the places of a story seem more realistic.

Students also worked on editing by checking for mistakes with spelling, capitals, periods, sentence sense, quotation marks, and paragraphs.

Writing: Students worked on revising conferences by commenting on a partner’s writing today. Students also worked on revising their own story today.
